Not much of a difference
It is mostly a "commercial" innovation. Basically you get a cellular foam washer which looks nice but during live performances it doesn't make huge acoustical difference.
I can imagine these cympads can be useful during studio works but for home or live sessions I'm not sure. Buy it if you like colorful and unique looks for your your cymbal stands, they look sweet.
