I thought I didn’t need another drum machine
Since the Tr1000 release, people have gone crazy about it and forgot the Rytm.
The sound is simply phenomenal. Huge, dark and beautifully glued together, with an amazing drive.
I highly recommend diving into the 808/909 settings and listening to the differences. Almost every engine is fantastic and offers tons of tweaking possibilities. The bass drum and especially the cymbals are outstanding. I’ve never been a big fan of 808 cymbals — I prefer the sharper 606 sound — but here they sound great right out of the box and can be shaped in countless ways. The HiHat Lab really is a playground for anyone into synthetic cymbals.
My only complaint is the tom section, which takes up four channels. The bass tom is excellent, but the others are basically sine waves with noise. I’m missing a proper 909-style tom, although the sample layer helps a lot.
Compared with the TR-1000’s more hi-fi character, the Rytm sounds darker. I also never particularly liked Elektron’s effects, but here they work surprisingly well.
I bought the TR-1000 in April and my first sessions were an unforgettable experience. I’ve had the Analog Rytm since August, and I didn’t expect to experience that feeling all over again.
At the moment, these are the two drum machines I would want to keep forever. The Analog Rytm is a modern classic.
