Punchy, Versatile, Transparent
Very like this unit. Use it on single tracks and master. It can be punchy or smooth(in terms of VCA of course). It has the most versatile control set on the 500 series market.
One drawback - not enough stepped control, sometimes is difficult to recall or adjust.

Great first hardware compressor.
Great unit but I've only used plugins so far, so I can't compare it with any other hardware. It was nice to hear that it does sound better than plugins. I now understand the 'analog depth' thing my mastering engineer told me about. It's not only wide left to right, but tall from top to bottom and front to back(+better element separation). While it has no actual color, it does have a discrete vibe(highs never sound as dull/harsh as on a plugin comp). The compression itself is way nicer than plugins as well - all while staying 'on point'(not wonky, no weird artefacts or jitter)
Build is top notch, most premium knobs I ever touched. I'm probably gonna get a few other elysia modules, since the xpressor has made such a good impression. It now lives on my mixbus and it's not going anywhere anytime soon.

Your Next Gen Mastering Grade EQ
I had the gen1 Xpressor, also have other Elysia stuff so I know the quality and the philosophy of the brand. So when NEO came out, I switched with no regrets...So If I'd rate the Xpressor Gen 1 %100, Xressor Neo would be %115! A wider image, better depth and tiny more detail on transients.. Because my DA converters output level can easily send audio to match my 500 series devices and Neo's s/n ratio is soo low, I can easliy use it with for mastering purposes..Highly recomended
