Passive pickup

i,ve been using these pickups for about twelve years and in my opinion, have a beautiful warm tone that heralds back to the 60's. The quick connect system makes customisation simple with no soldering needed. The early generation of this pickup didn't have the quick connect system but again was relatively simple to make the mods to the wiring loom. Next plan is to convert the old wiring over to the EMG BTS. The only issue I can see is the instructions are not clear enough for novices, but with a little rationalising its a doddle.

Used in a fretless

Purchased this pickup to use in a hand constructed fretless bass. All the parts come with the pickup for a relatively easy installation, although the inclusion of springs or similar to push the pickup upwards would be helpful for those not replacing a pickup.

In terms of sound quality, it is exactly what I was looking for. The sound is warm yet defined, but even on a fretless responds with some power when the gain goes up. Harmonics are nice and clear, and the whole sound is never muddy. Definitely recommended for those who want a slightly more modern fretless sound.

Emg always good

this is the first passive Emg pickup which i use, they are really great and the solderless system is fantastic, 5 minutes for the pickup swap!

The best bang for the buck

I bought the pickup about a year ago for my Dean Metalman Bass.

Though it doesn't fit perfectly (The EMG is about 1cm too small for the original fitting) it looks better.
The workmansship of the pre-wired humbucker ist quite good.

The pickup sounds way better than the original one. It has a slightly mid boosted tone but doesn't lose any of it's strength in deep end frequencies. High frequencies are rendered a bit more agressive but still clearly.
Changing the pickup also reduced humming and background noises.

The only disatvantage I found out so far is that the blend control has much less influence on the tone than before.

All in all, for less than 60 € the EMG 35 HZ is an outstanding pickup with a nice sound, especially for rock / metal.
