Fat bass and presence
I've mounted this speaker in a custom made bass-reflex box of 40 liters and tuned close to the resonance frequency.
I use an old 5-string Ibanez SDGR (no model number, must be very old) with stainless strings (zing zing) tuned in standard C. I play mostly with a pick for speed.
For the amp I'm using a Nano Thunder Bass as preamp followed by a 100W PA amp.
At the moment I play metal, metal and metal :-) but I also like the rock sound. I'm not looking for something extreme and I like a fat bass sound.
I could only find pro's to this loudspeaker:
- The construction is very good and it is a solid piece of metal.
- The mounting is dead easy and requires no soldering.
- It has quite high efficiency and 100W into it pushes some air :-). Even with the nano as only power amp you can hear deep bass.
- The low end is really low. It extends also quite high (around 5kHz) so no need of a tweeter to hear everything happening above the bass thunder cause it's all there. That's what I like here: one device makes my sound.
- The price is very attractive for such a good performance.
Now I can hear that the pickups of this old bass are the weak link in the chain, but that's another story.
Summary: this is an excellent bass loudspeaker.

replacement for worn out units
I bought two of these to replace some units in existing speaker cabinets, besides some minimal wood working required to enlarge the aperture for them to fit the changeover to the Fanes was quick and easy especially as the Fanes have pinch turret connections so no soldering required.
The sound reproduction is excellent and compliments the rest of the speaker cabinet extremely well, I am very pleased with these units and would recommend them as a good all round replacement for units in cabinets that have a combined low and high frequency set up.
