Friedman Runt 20 is arguably the most versatile entry point into the boutique world. It manages to capture the high-gain "Holy Grail" tone Dave Friedman is known for, while providing a legitimate utility for pedal users. It isn’t trying to be a vintage Fender; it’s trying to be the most reliable, best-sounding workhorse on the stage! I'm totally sick and shocked by the sound of it. Tried to compare this with bunch of other amps on the stock but nothing, I repeat nothing matches this one.
Runt 20 offers a dedicated, high-headroom clean channel (perfect for pedals) and a lead channel that delivers that saturated "God-like" tube distortion. Despite being "only" 20 watts, the custom transformers make it punch way above its weight class. It has enough bark to cut through a drummer in a club setting.
and almost forget to mention: a critical feature for the clean channel - the bright switch. It allows you to compensate for darker humbuckers or dial in some extra "snap" when you aren't getting that Fender-style chime naturally. The XLR CabSim Output allows you for silent recording or sending a consistent signal to the front-of-house without needing a mic. If you're hesitating - please don't - buy it and forget about other amps.... Best so far...
