It's a plastic nut which doesn't cost much and does the job. The string spacing (not the total width) appears to be just a hair wider than the stock nuts that are standard on most Asian import instruments, which is a good thing in my opinion. Gives one just a tiny little bit more room to finger complex chords without muffling adjacent strings.
In short, a perfectly-useable guitar part hardly distinguishable from more expensive equivalents.
I've used it for my Squier Bullet Strat and I replaced it by myself. It was slightly thicker than default Squier nut so I was needed to do a file job to it and to guitar. But it's good that the nut has an extra amount of width and depth to fit any type of strat. It works good. I've nothing bad to say about it.
I needed this nut to replace a broken one on my strat, however, when I pushed the nut into the slot, it immediately broke. It's made out of really cheap plastic. I cannot recommend this nut.
I expected the nut to be a simple, basic quality item but it did not meet my expectations.
The plastic it is made of is on the soft side, not ideal for a nut. It is lightweight and translucent, not the solid white presented in the photo.
My advice would be pay a bit more and get a TUSQ nut or make one out of bone yourself.
I needed this as a replacement for the nut fitted to the guitar because the slot for the G string was much too deep resulting in buzzing string. This replacement arrived with very very shallow slots and needed trimming to make it fit,I couldn't be bothered returning it and asking for another one. All in all very poor quality, the only bad thing I have ever received from Thomann.
