You just never know when you are going to need this essential little bit of gig gear. I've been caught out too many times in the past. When you switch between different microphones you often need this little fella to adapt between the different mic stand thread sizes.
For example, I usually sing through a Sure SM58 (industry standard) microphone which fits into a mic holder. However, I sometimes use a Skull Head (Elvis mic) when doing a gig with a 50's rock'n'roll band. The Skull Head mic doesn't use a mic holder. It screws directly onto the mic stand. If I don't have the adapter, I'm screwed (forgive the pun).
I always have a spare adapter in my gig bag these days - I won't be caught out again.
Building up a recording session takes ages when all microphone holders have different seized connections. This simple thingy ends the suffering. Just put it inside every microphone holder and you can grab a stand at random to build up. This saves a lot of stress, frustration and walking! The only negative thing is that sometimes they come out of the microphone holder when you twist the holder from the stand.
There's not much that you can say about these other than they are essential to carry with you if you find yourself using different mic stands and clips, they cost very little but can prove invaluable and save a lot of gaffer tape!
We all know that these little things are indispensable. They can make or break your day. I've had countless adapters in the past, but this one takes the trophy. K&M has a good reputation of making quality items that last; it's zinc plated, so you don't have to worry about the thread deteriorating over time -which is a problem I've had numerous times with other brands. No cons, all pro. Until they one day decide to make all mic connections the same size (haha), I'll use these forever!
I use this thread adapter for my Fun Generation Microphone, which has 5/8" thread. The inside thread is 3/8", and is perfect fit that allows me to attach it to a Manfrotto 088 Adapter on my Manfrotto PIXI Mini Tripod. I use the tripod as a desktop mic stand. Works great!
Advice: Use a coin in place of a screwdriver to screw the adapter into the mic clip.
I connect my Apogee MiC Plus (has a hole with a big diameter) with a mic stand (has a screw with a smaller diameter). Perfectly fit. I am absolutely happy. Good quality of the product.
