SE Electronics DynaCaster DCM 3

My use is for recording spoken word only for audio docs and podcasting. I don't record singing or instruments. I'm also not an audio engineer, so my opinions are subjective, and made in comparison to other dynamic mics I own.

I also own a Rode podmic and a dynacaster dcm8. Subjectively I think this mic falls between the two. The DCM3 is well made, sounds good for the money, but needs a fethead or similar to avoid pushing the gain all the way. Without a gain booster the noise floor is somewhat prevalent, but no worse than the Podmic.

I plan to use the mic with a regular fethead and a fethead transformer, both of which not only provide gain, but really bring this mic to life.

The mic is lighter than the podmic, and marginally lighter than the DCM8, and as I occasionally record basic voiceover when I'm on the move, in less than ideal environments, that will be my primary use.

There's a lot of competition at this price, but subjectively, this mic stands up, and you can register to extend your warranty with SE. REally good for the price, not an SM7B, but it's less than 1/4 the price.
