Sommer Cable Magellan 225

i've replaced a rebellious snakes' nest of cables for my nearfield monitors and subwoofers with this Magellan 225 – the saving in mass and bulk is significant, even with the exact same cross-section.

i'm glad i had to terminate my home-made cables with Neutrik speakON®, because Magellan 225 is so flexible, so soft, so pliable, that the next unknowledgeable idiot might mistake it for a microphone cable of very high quality!

outer and inner jacket are really easy to work, the strands are indeed thinner than most human hairs, and they stay put where you twist them... surely enough, fitting a Neutrik speakON® on a cable can't be called rocket science, but it really can't get any easier than with this Magellan 225.

i'm used to the concert-sound logic of very thick loudspeaker cables running to unhealthy lengths, so when it comes to hifi and studio settings, i'm not easily sold on the notion that "this cable sounds better than that cable", and even less of in front a maximum fare of 2 meters to go...

but, having said this, the thinner Magellan 225 is replacing a very thick, very high-end wiring in my small listening environment, at a fraction of that cost, and i'm really enjoying the result i'm listening to... too bad i need four wires with my hifi speakers, otherwise it may have been worth to try it in that department, too!

notice #1: replacing that big coil of thick cable behind power amplifiers with this Magellan 225 has a massive, positive influence on their thermal efficiency – more air to be fed to their fans, and unimpeded, means they're running cooler (by a pair of degrees, as i'm seeing).

notice #2: vacuuming, mopping, sweeping's made easier by reduced bulk and lack of stiffness – and a cleaner studio is of course a better sounding studio!

notice #3: if you, like me, must terminate it with Neutrik speakON®, mind their reduced overall diameter / section – with 6mm, your "old" NL4FX may not chuck it effectivelly (while the NL4FXX-W-S does).

i got rid of all guitar and bass amps that i couldn't lift anymore, and got "virtual" on them out of necessity (and i do not regret it – nor does my back bone)... had i not, this Magellan 225 would have easily, happily gone in each of them, pronto, to simplify maintenance and handling... and i might liked their sound a tad more, maybe, like i'm liking the sound of my nearfield monitors more, maybe!
