Superb lightweight stands
Angus777 28.02.2026
I previously owned the Yamaha Crosstown lightweight hardware set. Those are great stands from the perspective of weight but the sacrifice in functionality was just a little too great for me and I was never the greatest fan of their looks (which do matter, right? :-) But Tama has really nailed these Spartan stands - they aren't quite as lightweight as the Yamaha's but they are MUCH better from a functional perspective (e.g. boom, gearless tilter, etc.) so the overall trade-off of functionality vs weight is better in my opinion.

Moreover they look much more like conventional stands which means I can mix and match (e.g. with my much heavier Speed Cobra hi-hat stand) keeping the feel and functionality I want while also also saving total weight in my hardware case and these stands don't look at al out of place alongside normal hardware (the Crosstown's did).

Plus they are built to usual Tama quality and actually when you compare to other stands they are very good value for money especially when you buy the 2-pack.

I will say that at the limit they are not quite as stable as a conventional and much heavier stand - centre of mass isn't as low so it is easier to make them wobble if for example you try to rock them with your hand with a large cymbal mounted. However, that is not comparing apples-with-apples and there is no risk of them falling over when actually playing, even with a large cymbal. I love them and plan on adding a straight one too.
