Thomann DP-28 Plus Review – A Surprisingly Enjoyable Stage Piano
Blazej Drobniuch 14.03.2025
As an advanced pianist who regularly plays on a Yamaha Grand Piano, I often struggle to find an electric stage piano that doesn’t feel like a major compromise. Many models leave me feeling disconnected from the joy of piano playing. However, the Thomann DP-28 Plus was a pleasant surprise—I actually enjoy practicing on it, something I can't say for many other stage pianos.

I’ve tried numerous stage pianos, including my Nord Stage 3 HP76 (which I personally dislike for its keyboard feel) and the Kawai MP7, which, in my opinion, has the best stage piano keyboard on the market. Yet, despite being one of the cheapest stage pianos available, the DP-28 Plus delivers an unexpectedly enjoyable playing experience.

Key Highlights
✅ Good Keyboard Feel – While it’s not on the level of high-end models like the Kawai MP7, the DP-28 Plus offers a satisfying hammer-action response for both beginners and experienced pianists.
✅ Great Piano Sounds – The built-in piano sounds are impressive for this price range, making practice sessions enjoyable.
✅ Useful Features – The inclusion of a metronome, drum patterns, and Bluetooth connectivity adds versatility, especially for modern practice methods using apps for sight-reading, solfège, or rhythm training.
✅ Powerful Speakers – The built-in speakers are surprisingly loud and good-sounding, outperforming even some more expensive Casio digital pianos I’ve owned.
✅ Great for Busking & Secondary Use – I’m looking forward to trying this piano on the street, as it seems perfect for busking. It’s also a great second piano for practice, small gigs, or secondary locations.

Final Verdict
I highly recommend the Thomann DP-28 Plus for beginners looking for an affordable yet solid stage piano and for advanced pianists needing a secondary instrument for casual practice, not-so-important gigs, or outdoor performances.

For the price, this piano offers great value and, most importantly, makes playing enjoyable—which is all that really matters! 🎹✨

PM
Great rehearsal-room piano
Pablo Matolo 22.11.2025
We bought the Thomann DP-28 as a “duty” keyboard for our rehearsal room, mainly so pianists wouldn’t have to carry their heavy 88-key boards. Honestly, everyone who has played it so far has been pleasantly surprised. Instead of complaining, they ended up asking what brand it is — the keybed feels much better than expected and the main piano sounds are actually very decent.

It’s not pretending to be the main piano on a high-profile TV event stage, but for everyday rehearsals it performs extremely well. Lightweight, simple to use, reliable, and with a key feel that keeps players comfortable during long sessions. For the price, it’s an excellent “house keyboard” that just works.
