Yamaha Chris Buck RS02CB Honey Gold

Being a P90 “aficionado”, these Chris Buck Yamaha Revstars were definitely on my radar since they were announced.
I’ve just had the chance to try a batch recently delivered to a big retailer in Germany, and I was super impressed by their consistency.

Usually with the big guitar manufacturers, the quality of the final instruments varies a lot (even at the Custom Shop tier).
All the examples I’ve tested back to back were great; there were negligible differences, which are more keen on subjective nuances in sound characteristics than being the outcome of a lack of quality.
At the end I’ve chosen the one that suited the P90 sound in my head best, but I could have been happy with any of them in case I’d purchased them blind over the internet.

I loved the sound and feel of it; it is totally aiming at the “vintage P90 sound”. The neck quickly becomes second nature, and it’s such a fun guitar to play.
Despite the information about it, the guitar features modern wiring instead of vintage, and there is indeed a treble bleed in the volume pot.
I will upgrade this in the near future

I don’t think it’s a steal for the price, but you definitely get a lot for what you pay.

Les gros points forts:
- Les micros sont géniaux, c'est plein de nuances, c'est gras, c'est chaud, à la fois rond et claquant. À l'aise dans tous les styles, en clean comme en disto.
- Le manche est facile, agréable, la finition satinée est vraiment appréciable, les frettes inox sont un vrai plus.

Les points faibles:
- Une guitare commandée sur internet demande toujours un réglage mais là, c'était une vraie catastrophe, la guitare arrive injouable. Un enfer si on est novice dans les réglages. Cordes à 10km du manche, intonation catastrophique cordes qui frisent...
- Le sillet est une aberration sur une guitare de cette gamme, un bout de plastique cheap, mal découpé, trop haut, avec des marques noires.
- Le binding n'est pas parfait, quelques coulures et "bosses".
- Elle ne tient pas l'accord, pas possible d'enchaîner 3 morceaux sans devoir s'accorder.
- Elle est arrivée avec des marques sur une des vis du chevalet, assez étrange pour une guitare neuve.

Bref, une guitare pas à la hauteur de sa réputation, les micros ne suffisent pas à compenser tous ses défauts.

Schon lange liebäugelte ich mit der Yamaha Revstar Reihe. Eine Pro sollte es werden. Irgendwie waren jedoch stets andere Gitarren interessanter.

Bis ich das Video um die Chris Buck Revstar gesehen hatte. Für mich die perfekte Revstar. Clean - ohne Schnörkel. Klar hätte ich sicherlich Verwendung für den 5-fach Switch und Tone Shaping gehabt.

Aber was ich jetzt hier in den Händen halte, könnte meine Lieblingsgitarre werden.

Schon beim Auspacken und dem ersten Anfühlen/Spielen - da war sofort alles da was ich an einer Gitarre suche:

Sie ist leicht, schmiegt sich an den Körper. Lässt sich super stimmen und hält die Stimmung. Mega resonant (ohne Amp) und der Hals ist ein Traum.

Die Chris Buck P90s sind pure Magie. Insbesondere hat es mir der P90 am Hals angetan, dazu hatte ich relativ wenig Videos im Netz gefunden. So sahnig warm, dynamisch, kehlig, stundenlang gespielt. In Verbindung mit Volume und dem Tone Regler kann man hier schon mehr als zufrieden sein. Mittelposition auch super klar und am Steg ist es für meinen Geschmack etwas dünn, aber nicht weniger dynamisch.

Reduziert auf nur 3 Pickup Schalt-Positionen empfinde ich die Gitarre im Vergleich zu anderen als klanglich extrem vielseitig sowie feinauflösendst.

Sie hat sich in kürzester Zeit ihren festen Platz neben meinen Duesenberg, Fender, Tokai und Baum Gitarren, verdient.

Die Verarbeitung und Optik ist ein Traum. Lediglich ist die Farbgestaltung der Rückseite (Hals und Body) für meinen Geschmack etwas fad, gerade im Kontrast zum Goldtop!

Unbedingt ausprobieren!

Elle tient très bien tête à ma Music Man (Rabea) ; ma PRS (USA Tremonti) ; ma Gibson (Mustaine V).
Pour du Iron Maiden ou Metallica je me régale avec les micros.
Tout est simple naturel et facile avec cette guitare et un coup de volume en moins sur une Blues Driver et c'est beau calme et "Gilmour" ou Cardinal Black ;-)
Seul bémol sur le Bridge que je n'arrive à régler qu'en relachant les cordes. Mais une fois fait on n'y touche plus !
