Catalinbread Epoch Boost

I use this pedal at the end of my pedalboard. Originally to spice up the reverbs and delays. The sound is warmer and fuller than before in every sense, specially with single coils.

The preamps pot is just changing the character and the Boost increasing the volume. The preamp though is where the magic happens. At 1~3 its really rich and beautiful.

No cons, as it's doing exactly what it's intended to do. If you have an amp that you lo e and don't want to change that sound this might not be for you, it does colour the sounds but, in my opinion, for good. I use a Vox ac15 and this gives it body without changing the character too drastically.

Ik kocht het product vooral voor de eerste knop om het geluid warm bij te kleuren, eerder dan de boost functie. Hoewel de twee natuurlijk samenwerken.

Het geluid is echt goed. Je krijgt zo een licht dof (compressed) geluid alsof het te luid staat. Positief bedoeld. Heel warm. Het maakt mijn transistor versterker echt heel goed klinken. Ik denk dat van al dit soort pedalen (echoplex, xotic boost, ... ) deze pedaal het meest aanwezige, bijgekleurde geluid produceert. Het is sowieso subtiel, dit soort boosters.

Ik combineerde het met mijn Belle Epoch Delay en deze klonk nog beter ! Ook al heeft die zelf al zo een pre-amp circuit. Deze twee pedalen vormen samen één van de beste tape delays die er zijn. Precies een echt Echoplex-machine, maar het kan inbeelding zijn.

Er valt nog heel wat te ontdekken. De Epoch Boost op het einde klikte heel goed met een SD1-overdrive, minder dan met de Tubescreamer. Een boost op het einde heeft het risico om 'grit' weg te nemen door compressie, wat in sommige posities zeker het geval is. In het begin van de keten moet ik nog de pedaal uitproberen.

Nog allerlei zaken uit te proberen. Ik snap ook nog niet goed wat de functie is van de eerste helft van de eerste knop. Die regelt precies enkel volume of zit er ook EQ in ? De knop werkt pas echt nuttig voor geluidssculpting vanaf de helft.

Spijtig dat er geen handleiding bij zat (weeral niet bij Catalinbread). Twee grote stickers, leuk, maar een mooie handleiding had ik liever gehad.

Great pedal, appears deceptively simple but does a lot for your sound by pushing your amp. Many online reviews say 'it simply makes your amp sound better', I agree. As valuable to me in my setup as drives & fuzzes in higher price range. On the preamp control between 10&12 o'clock it adds some subtle eq & harmonics, past twelve o'clock adds more treble & compression. Boost can level out the signal or push preamp at lower volume, very usefull addition. If lost, stolen or broken, I would buy this again.
