Charvel Pro-Mod DK24 HSS 2PT CM SW

I bought this guitar for frequent live use (8 - 12 gigs per month) in a band that plays a wide range of styles and which requires rhythm and lead playing.
As far as a performance machine, it is one of the best guitars I have ever owned. The neck is very easy to navigate, the 7/8ths size body is very manageable to have hanging off you for two hours and the hardware that comes as standard is brilliant - I thought the trem system would be crap but it really is not that far of a Floyd system, I was surprised at its stability and the locking tuners are a great addition. The nut is nice and the low resistance pots make swells easy. Something not mentioned in the description is that the thumb side fret markers are glow in the dark which is very helpful for performing on dark stages. Visually it is also quite striking, the white/gold combo works well and is eye catching. I love playing the thing - the single coils are slightly noisy (but still not as bad as some strats I've had) and required some adjustments to equalise output with the other single and the humbucker - which sounds beefy and sends a pretty hot signal.

Now, the negatives. I gave the truss rod a quick adjustment when it arrived I could swear I could feel the action creeping higher over the next few gigs. But I put it out of my mind. Two weeks after it arrived, I started to notice the jack input was failing - audio was cutting off and the guitar was buzzing. I tightened the tension arm in the input but it didn't fix anything. I brought the unit to a luthier who replaced the jack input (with a TRS input - good change as it clamps the lead in place) and while they were working on it they found the neck was never bolted on properly from the factory. This had been why the action was creeping higher - the neck was bowing gradually because the bolts weren't seated. These two failures (the jack and neck bolts) really threw me - if you are paying over a grand for a guitar you would think some basic QA checks were done.
Thomann in fairness to them covered the cost of these repairs to be done locally as well as the cost of a full setup.
With these changes made, I cannot recommend this guitar highly enough. I would also hope Charvel have their shit together and this is a rare once off QA failure.

Eine moderne Super-Strat mit eleganter, weiß-goldener Optik, die mich von Anfang an gecatched hat.
Nach langer Recherche und viel hin und her habe ich mich entschieden, die Gitarre doch zu bestellen.
Die Gitarre schaut in echt nochmal besser aus, als sie es auf den Fotos tut. Schlicht, aber elegant.
Bei der ersten Inbetriebnahme fielen mir jedoch ein paar Makel auf. Zum einem, ist die Nut nicht ganz sauber eingelassen. Des Weiteren war der 5-Way Blade Selector Switch war in der 4. Position merklich "eingerostet", das das Spielgefühl und die Funktionalität merklich einschränkte. Ibanez kann das um die Hälfte des Geldes besser! Nach kurzer Aufnahme mit dem Kundencenter, hatte ich vereinbart die Gitarre zurückzuschicken und den Switch auszutauschen. Die Gitarre kam dann nach NL in die Fender-Werkstatt, welche den Switch austauschte. Seitdem geht die Klampfe echt gut.

Sound: Der Full-Shred von SD war und ist noch immer für mich gewöhnungsbedürftig. Extrem heißer Output, für High Gain Shreds genial!" Die Single Coils haben fetteren Output als "normale" Single Coils, schaffen es jedoch Strat-ähnliche Sounds zu erzeugen.

Hardware: Die Charvel-Locking Tuners funktionieren einwandfrei. Die Bünde sind zwar nicht aus Edelstahl, fühlen sich jedoch gut an. Was ich positiv hervorheben möchte ist der Goth 510 Tremolo. Dieser funktioniert wirklich butterweich und hält die Stimmung insgesamt sehr gut.
Eine Sache auf die ich noch hinweisen möchte, ist der verbaute EVH-Low Friction Volume Pot, da ich das vorher selber nicht wusste. Dieser ist extrem leichtgängig und man muss wirklich aufpassen, dass man mit der Hand nicht ankommt. Für Swells ist er super.

Haptik: Der "Caramelized" Speed-Neck von Charvel ist wirklich ein Traum. Etwas dicker, als der Wizard III von Ibanez, aber trotzdem noch dünn genug, das schnelle Läufe wirklich Spaß machen. Die Hand gleitet ohne Müh von A nach B, das macht wirklich Spaß.
Ein weiterer Pluspunkt ist das Gewicht der Gitarre. Wenn ich nach meiner LP, die Charvel in die Hand nehme, ist es eine echte Erleichterung. Langes Spielen im Stehen wird dadurch merklich erleichtert.

Fazit:
Die Gitarre richtet sich (denke ich) primär an Shredder und technisch versierte Spieler. Ich nutze sie jedoch hauptsächlich für softere Gangarten. V.a. die Schaltung in der 3.Position ist für mich im Clean-Channel mit Chorus und Reverb der Hammer. Dieser extrem glasige, glockige und differenzierte Klang zeigt, dass die Klampfe mit ihren SD Single Coils auch extrem gut für Clean-Sounds zu haben ist.
