DPA 4018V-B-B01

This mic puts an end to the myth that condenser microphones inherently have worse off-axis rejection and are more feedback-prone. It's better in that respect than several of my dynamic mics. Plus it sounds like a high class studio recording large diaphragm condenser microphone. I just wish Thomann had the flat EQ version, this one has a slight boost around 10k, fortunately a little above the peak frequency of most sibilants, but still can make the sound a little sharp. Easy to fix with EQ, still I would prefer the linear version 4018VL. I'm removing one star from features, because although this mic is modular and I could replace just the capsule, the capsules cost almost as much as the whole mic, which defeats the purpose, I'd rather buy a 2nd mic and have more spare parts.

I don’t know why I held out for so long before buying this mic!

I didn’t think it would be possible to get better than the high end mics we were already using. The d:facto is in its own league and nothing else comes close. There seems to always be mics that shine in some areas and don’t in others and it’s like the d:facto fills in all the gaps and is just perfect in pretty much every situation!

Since we switched to DPA mics it’s the first time we’ve been able to sing without actually thinking about singing or worrying if unpleasant frequencies will peak during a performance. The voice you hear in your head is exactly what comes through the speakers uncoloured and super smooth from the very lowest frequencies to the highest.

Although the 4018V capsule has a very slight high frequency boost compared to the more linear 4018VL it seems to be just outside the vocal range to add a little shimmer without altering the voice itself and really makes the vocals shine for both male and female vocals

I’ve never been more impressed with a piece of equipment than the d:facto. STOP HESITATING AND BUY IT!
