Works as advertised but pricey
This is specifically for Fender American basses that use threaded nuts but I'm told it works equally well with Hipshot Ultralites. It works as advertised to increase the break angle between nut and tuner. It seems sturdy enough not to break or bend under pressure.
With the old style tapered (not fluted-shaft) tuners the improvement was marginal at best, carefully winding the string around the post will fix most (if not all) problems without needing this piece of gadget.
But the fluted-shaft tuners seem to have an inherent problem, in which the string sits higher than desired no matter what. Stealth retainer really helps with these tuners, which brings the question: Should Fender charge separately for something that fixes their design problem?
In summary, this is a quality product which does what it's supposed to do but it should be available at a lot less price.

Only for tuners with top side big screws
The purpose of this thing is to keep the lower strings in place on a Precision Bass headstock, becasuse the guitar desing results very straigth string laying. When playing hard, the low strings may jump out from the nut. As I had this problem, I decided to buy the string retainers, originally for a Squire CV70 bass. The tuners of that guitar are simply pressed and glued into position with the small screw on the back side. Also the Squire tuners diameter is bigger than the retainers, so had to enlarge the holes. This cased some scratches (my bad, though!). When I finished assembling the string retainers and tuned again the strings, the tension picked up the unfixed retainers and resulted a disaster look.
Later moved the retainers onto a Fender American Performer. Its tuners have big fixing screws on the headstock top side and these screws helped keeping the retainers in place. And in this case they work perfectly, provided a good slope for the lower strings, so they did not jump out from the nut during playing.
The tuners' mechanic is recommended to consider before purhasing the retainers. If OK, just buy it and enjoy the slope of the E-A strings.
Recommended.

A nice stealthy Fender drop-in solution
I ordered this product for my Fender USA Standard 2005 Bass.
It was a direct replacement for the washer on the tuner. The product works well enough, it corrects the string angle making it closer to other strings. The angle could be a bit steeper but the functionality is not compromised.
CON: The angle could be a bit steeper.
PRO: It works nontheless.

Bass string retainer
Unfortunately the retainer do not fit my Squier bass which does not have the nut to fix it to the pole. I keep it for the time in the future when I will onw a bass suitable for my string retainer, as for now it is a nice sourvenir.

Nice add
This little thing s grate mod to your bass if your string goes out of nut or buzzes. With this retainer you are enabling grater force to be applied to the nut of the guitar.

Works as advised.
I put it on the A string of my Fender Jazz Bass and make the string sit a bit more firmly in the nut slut.

Perfect for nut buzzing
For those instruments that lack a bit of headstock angle, it fits my hipshot ultralite 1/2 inch posts.
Good quality and packaging.

Fender Stealth String Retainer (for Bass)
Bought this whilst upgrading my Mexican Fender Precision (New Tuners, Bridge, Pick up and Pickguard) and it does a good job. Have used it on the "A" string and it looks really neat and tidy.

Rather “slim”
It bends under the tension of the string. It creates an angle though, so all is good.
