Jackson JS3Q V Spectra Bass Prpl.Phaze

Got this to cover the low-tuned songs I wanted to play after a few years with just a regular P-bass and it's definitely a very different experience.
The neck - exceptionally slick neck, very thin, took a moment to adapt to how tight the string spacing is but the neck feels great. Could do without the white binding, but that's more of a cosmetic issue. The fretboard, as usual, arrived bone dry and strung with awful strings but oiling and restringing a new budget bass is standard practice. The fretwork is adequate, no sharp ends, but I will have to file one or two of them down a bit and it definitely needed an action adjustment
The body - Very comfortable to play, contours fit my hands nicely, no sharp edges cutting into the forearm. The Neck pocket is very deep and contoured, so the high frets are easily accessible. One downside is the body is smaller and made of a lightweight wood, so it has a bit of a neck dive, not a dealbreaker, especially with a proper strap, but the dive is noticeable.
The electronics - quieter than expected and quite trebly, but the humbuckers sound nice and thick. I'm still more of a passive guy, but at least the low B sounds nice and clear. The EQ isn't too intense, just enough to adjust to the situation on the fly, maybe scoop a few mids or roll off some treble (though it feels nothing like a passive tone knob, I might mod one in later). Coil split is something I rarely use, but it's nice to have, it does come with a slight volume drop though so you'll need to adjust the EQ and level. Passive switch is also nice to have, and passive mode has virtually no volume loss, but I do miss that passive tone.
Overall - decent 5-string for the price, electronics are in my opinion the weakest point, but those can be changed, what's more important is it has a great neck and looks gorgeous

Definitiv nicht! Ist was für große Hände. Kaufkriterium war die 35"-Mensur.

Optik: Sehr elegante Erscheinung, sowohl Korpusform, Headstock und auch Farbe, nicht rosa oder pink sondern Purpur - Deep Purple! Gefällt.
Noch eleganter wäre Griffbrett ohne Dots.
Der Bass ist durch das verlängerte Horn sehr gut ausbalanciert.

Verarbeitung: Vorn ist alles in bester Ordnung. Hinten könnte man an den Schraublöchern rummeckern, dass die beim Lackieren nicht sauber abgeschliffen wurden und somit etwas rau im Inneren sind und bei der Montage wurde sehr gut mit Poliermittel hantiert, weiße Rückstände. Die findet man auch unter dem Elektronikdeckel. Dafür punktet wieder das Batteriefach mit Klappe, keine Schrauben lösen für Batteriewechsel.
Der Hals war im Auslieferungszustand (frostige Wintertemperaturen) flach wie ein Brett, das hat gescheppert.... Ebenso war die Intonation nicht stimmig. Kann man alles selber einstellen. Großes Manko ist der kleine Inbusschlüssel für die Saitenlageneinstellung, irgendwie passt der bei mir nicht (zu groß) oder ich stelle mich zu dämlich an.
Die Bridge scheint massiv und damit wertig zu sein.
Potiknöpfe wurden auch noch etwas justiert.

Sound: Humbucker, das ist neu für mich am Bass, war bislang nur an die P/J-Singlecoil -Kombi gewöhnt mit Aktivschaltung. Klingt anders, in meiner bevorzugten EQ-Einstellung - bass voll rein, treble voll rein, middle in mittig - drückt das super von unten rum. Bin reiner Plektrumspieler und daher muss ein guter Attack zu hören sein mit Bassfundament und brillianten Höhenanteilen. Das machen die Humbucker. Im Singlecoilsplit geht der Druck verloren, allerdings sind die Anschläge präziser zu hören. Wird bei mir wenig/keinen Einsatz finden.
Meine Soundbewertung bezieht sich allerdings auf das Spielen über eine Marshall-Gitarrenkombo, wer weiß, wie es über eine große Bassbox mit Topteil klingen würde.

Handling: Wie oben bereits erwähnt, super ausbalanciert. Nach dem Einstellen scheppert nun auch fast nichts mehr (Grobmotoriker beim Anschlag!). Der Hals ist breiter als bei meinem alten Bass, der ist allerdings slim, eher die Breite eines 4-Saiters. Das ist aber kein Hindernis. Die Bundabstände im Tiefbereich fallen etwas größer aus (lange 35"-Mensur) und sind für meine langen Finger kein Problem. Tja, das erhoffte Schwingungsverhalten der low-B, längere Mensur=höhere Saitenspannung=mehr Sustain, kann ich nicht attestieren. Ein langer tiefer D-Ton kommt nur bedingt zustande, hoher Attack und dann starker Amplitudenabfall. Hierfür dann lieber die E-Saite auf D stimmen.

Fazit: Preis-/Leistungsverhältnis passt. Super verarbeitet und toller Sound. Bässer geht's nicht .

Edit Juli 2024: Ich hab's hingekriegt, den 9V-Block falsch gepolt anzuschließen, oh je... Elektronik gegrillt. Shit happens! Leider keine Ersatzteile verfügbar. Neue Elektronik verbauen macht wirtschaftlich keinen Sinn. Ab jetzt dann nur noch passiv, immer noch gut.

Tout d'abord cette basse est sublime, elle tient bien l'accord il me semble, le son est bon, sa variété de son possible (active/passive, active EQ et le switch pour passer les micros en simple bobinage), le manche est plutôt agréable bien que forcément un peu plus gros puisque c'est une 5 cordes.
La raison qui fait qu'elle n'est pas 5/5, c'est qu'elle a du neck dive, qui forcément diminue légèrement son ergonomie.
