I've been looking for the gypsy vibe since the movie Sweet and lowdown came out but never leaned into the gypsy jazz guitar territory I've been trying to get the sound from my acoustic guitars. Started with electric guitar strings that won't really intonate, then lighter gauge acoustic strings that are almost there but still not. Finally I reached for the obvious, bought the real deal and I'm happy with the result.

Conclusion: the strings make a really big difference! If you are looking for a certain type of sound start with the strings.
