Scala Vilagio Bass Tailpiece Maple No.3 4/4

I bought this Scala Vilagio maple tailpiece as a birthday gift for my double bass teacher, who was in the process of restoring an old anonymous Italian bass. He had mentioned once that this particular model caught his eye, so when the opportunity came, it felt like the perfect present.

Now that the restoration is complete, the tailpiece looks absolutely beautiful on the instrument. The craftsmanship is elegant, the maple has a refined and natural aesthetic, and it blends seamlessly with the character of an old Italian bass. Visually, it adds a touch of class without being overly flashy — just tasteful and well made.

From a tonal perspective, everything has been excellent so far. There have been no issues with resonance, balance or projection, and the bass speaks clearly across all registers. The tailpiece feels stable, well‑constructed, and acoustically neutral in the best possible way: it supports the instrument without imposing its own character.

Most importantly, my teacher is genuinely happy with it. Seeing the tailpiece on his restored bass — and seeing his reaction — confirmed that it was the right choice. A beautiful accessory, both aesthetically and sonically.
