I purchased two SB3 previously and have been blown away with the sound quality and volume this speaker can produce for a battery powered unit, but the battery supplied with the older soundboks had one major downside that limited the speakers to casual rather than professional use, the speaker could not be charged and ran at full volume at the same time! 🤯
These updated batteries correct this glaring fault of the previous design by using a USB C power delivery input rather than the old 12v connection. This means you can finally crank the speaker upto 11 while it's charging/running from mains power.
In my opinion this makes the soundboks a genuine contender for a mobile dj setup. You now have to the flexibility to play without mains power when required, and the reliability of continuous mains power for indoor settings. You could also charge the battery while playing using a PD power bank which would give you indefinite playing time away from mains power!
As a bonus, the battery can charge a phone/laptop while powering the speaker. A nice addition but I'd rather save the battery for speaker use only.
My only gripe is the price, so expensive for a battery but they've doubled the battery life of my speakers so a worthwhile purchase. Thomman are charging the same as soundboks and offer a better delivery time and guarantee so I'd definitely recommend buying them from here. Really happy with the service, cheers guys.
Hopefully the next soundboks will address their other odd design choice and give you duel battery compartments to hot swap without powering down the speaker. One can dream 😄
