Supro 1313 Analog Delay

In the photo you can see a Supro made in New York, but in the bag I received a made-in-China Supro pedal (I bought it during the Black Friday sale). To me, it looks like a scam. I don’t think it sounds any different from cheap Chinese delays. It’s also very strange because the pedal is extremely lightweight. The casing looks very cheap, same with the knobs. This is the weirdest sale I’ve ever seen. You won’t get the product shown in the picture…

The reason I got this was the fact that the Supro Delay has an expression pedal input. My idea was that I could control the delay oscillation by using the expression pedal.

You can imagine that I was surprised to not get any kind of oscillation at all out of the box. Double checked the (online…) manual - that’s right, it should oscillate by cranking the feedback knob.

Ok, so, turns out there are trim pots inside (it’s an analog delay after all) and by adjusting the pot labeled R40 I was able to “extend” the range of the feedback pot. I think this is very useful to know for people who are getting this, because the oscillation sound itself can be half the reason you get this pedal in the first place, am I right? The feedback setting out of the box was very modest. Glad I figured out whats under the hood.

So another point I want to share (and the reason for the title), is that the way the repeats are going to ramp up will depend on the tone knob as well. Set it to lower, darker sounding repeats and the oscillation will kick in much much faster. Turn it clockwise - you may wait for the feedback to build quite a while, if it happens at all.

I read a lot of comments of the repeats having hiss. It’s true, but it is also quite mild and to me personally ads extra charm. Also I think that depends on the level amount. After a certain point the level passes unity and that’s where the hiss can be more apparent. Overall I think it sounds great. If you want squeaky clean sounding delay lines you’re not the target audience here, for sure.

So yeah, it’s like a little instrument all by itself, you will need to learn it’s quirks. I like it so far.

Overall, I think it’s a worthy purchase at a discounted price. The type of enclosure used and the presentation of the pedal (I like paper manuals) doesn’t really give me a premium feel you would expect at the original price. Glad to have it nonetheless.

Ich nutze das Delay als Bassist für Solopassagen und Akkordspiel. Das Supro tut was es soll. Es lassen sich schnell gut klingende Echos einstellen, wobei ich eher auf räumlich-weit bei geringem Volumen stehe. Hier passiert beim Regler Time auf dem letzten Drittel des Regelwegs recht viel auf engem Raum - das hätte vielleicht noch etwas besser gelöst werden können.

Mit dem Regler Filter lassen sich die Echos von eher dumpf bis spritzig einstellen. So lassen sich gut die eigenen Soundvorstellungen realisieren.

Die solide Konstruktion als recht großer verschraubter Kasten mit gebogenen Blechen ist simpel und soll wahrscheinlich retro sein. Sie erinnert an Zeiten, wo Autos in Amerika noch mit Leiterrahmen hergestellt wurden, während der Rest der Welt bereits selbsttragende Karosserien verbaute...

Ich habe das Supro als Schnäppchen bei den Thomann Music Days erworben und bin mit Preis und Leistung vollstens zufrieden. Zum regulären Preis von über EUR 200,- käme auch schon ein deutlich besser ausgestattetes MXR Carbon Copy Deluxe in Betracht.

Sehr warmer Delay und für Analog sehr lange Delay Zeiten möglich ohne die üblichen unschönen Artefakte. Sehr Reverb-Artiger Delay der langsam verblasst ohne dabei zu stark rauschig zu werden wie man es von analogen Delays kennt. Etwas Grundrauschen ist schon da welches bei höherem Level deutlich wird. Der Filter praktisch. Die Repeats sind jedoch recht kurz trotz hoher Einstellung werden bzw. verblassen sehr schnell. Vermutlich ein Kompromiss damit man das analoge Rauschen in den Wiederholungen nicht hören kann. Für Made in China (keine Made in USA mehr!) etwas teuer.
