Thomann 10H Concert Ocarina C5 Bass

I previously owned two alto ocarinas, the Focalink Plastic AC and Double AC.

First of all, this Ocarina is huge compared to those. My hands are quite small and I sometimes struggle with switching between the holes on the left side (when playing fast), however it is not a problem for slower melodies.

I do not find it cumbersome to hold in terms of weight. The fingering can however get a bit awkward, as mentioned above.

It uses Asian fingering, meaning that the pinky on the left side is lifted after the thumb. This is necessary for balance, but also made the transition easier for me coming from two Asian ocarinas.

The sound is very deep and resonant. It even vibrated a bit in my teeth the first time I played it. It uses a rising breath pressure, meaning that you blow harder as you go up the scale. By underblowing the first hole, a B can be played quite easily. The first hole is also divided into subholes, making it easier to play sharps/flats.

Being a clay ocarina it does not have condensation issues, but you might want to get a cord for it so that you do not drop it in the floor and break it.

It comes with a triangular protective case, which was a nice touch.

Je suis séduit par la douceur légèrement suave du son grave de cet ocarina.
Il est confortable, très facile à jouer et plutôt dynamique pour un instrument dit "basse".
Franchement, c'est un régal à jouer et à écouter.
Il donne un sentiment de qualité et de solidité (hormis le fin petit anneau en métal qui peut tout de même servir à l'attacher par sécurité).
Ses petits défauts seraient son poids (cela reste raisonnable), et l'absence des 2 trous qui permettraient le Si et le La grave des ocarinas 12 trous (sinon, c'est exactement le même doigté).
Pour le prix, il n'y a pas à hésiter, c'est le complément idéal de l'ocarina alto 12 trous, sauf pour ceux qui ne souhaiteraient qu'un ocarina grave (et pourquoi pas).
Il a le même Do grave que la flûte à bec Ténor, mais avec une facilité d'émission et une sonorité bien supérieures.

La ocarina tiene una excelente afinación y un sonido muy limpio y asombrosamente potente en comparación con otras ocarinas de cerámica de otras marcas que había tocado anteriormente. Es muy cómoda de tocar: los agujeros no son excesiamente grandes de manera que se tapan bien con la yema de los dedos (con otras ocarinas he tenido el problema de que los agujeros eran más grandes que los dedos), y la distancia entre los agujeros tampoco es excesiva. El acabado es muy bonito y no le he encontrado ninguna imperfección.
