Amazing but flawed
t’s fine, but not great. The whole thing looks amazing and is really well thought out. However, the encoders are a bit too wobbly for my taste, the audio engine feels a bit undercooked, and overall it’s just not really my thing.
That said, it is an amazing piece of gear, and for someone more into soundscapes and ambient music it might be really cool.
The encoders work fine, but are “just” wobbly — and for me, that’s quite a problem on such an expensive device. They function correctly and respond nicely, but they simply don’t feel right to me. I didn’t encounter any bugs; however, I did hear quite a few “spikes,” though I’m not sure whether those were audio glitches or part of the intended sound. Hard to tell.
The modulation options are great, as are the scenes. However, in my opinion there’s one fairly significant limitation: there is no “legato” mode. You can’t switch from one scene to another in the middle of a loop — it cuts the current loop and starts the next one from the beginning. For me, that’s an important omission, though it might not be a big deal for you.
MIDI-mapped parameters for all tracks are a great feature. USB audio is a bit hit-and-miss. It worked well with the Dirtywave M8 (which is an amazing combo!) but didn’t work with the Ableton Move at all — neither input nor output (the Dirtywave worked both ways). With a Mac it was mostly fine, but sending more than one part caused distortions.
