Wittner Piccolo Metronome

I teach the piano to primary school children and bought this metronome as an alternative to the electronic ones. In this computer age, children find the mechanical movement and sound more engaging than the beep of yet another electronic device.

Though the case is entirely plastic it's resilient enough for the metronome to be carried to and from school in a box of books, so long as you're careful with the winder on the side. It doesn't come with any bag, though, so needs to be wrapped up to avoid scratches to the gloss finish.

The clicking sound is stronger and richer than you might expect -- just as loud as wooden equivalents I've used, though with a slightly different tone. The tempo adjustment works in the conventional way (governed by the laws of physics): like most mechanical metronomes, it's not great for accurately setting very slow tempi.

I took it apart to look at the works and the parts look fairly fragile with the main cogs and clicking wheel made from plastic: as you'd expect for the price, it's not really a precision instrument. So far, though, it's proven itself to be good enough to do the job required.

Absolut solides Metronom

Wittner ist wohl die Marke für Metronome schlechthin. Dementsprechend leistet sich Wittner hier keine Patzer und bietet ein einfaches Metronom an, das seine Aufgabe tadellos erfüllt. Als Kritikpunkt könnte man eventuell die Tatsache sehen, das das Gehäuse komplett aus Plastik besteht, allerdings kann man angesichts des Kaufpreises und der Tatsache das das Teil "Made in Germany" ist, wohl noch darüber hinwegsehen. Wie üblich bietet das Metronom Tempi zwischen Largo (40) und Prestissimo (208) zur Auswahl.

Nun zum wohl wichtigsten beim Metronom, davon abgesehen das es den Takt durchgehend absolut regelmäßig halten muss: Der Klang des Metronomgeräusches. Für mich persönlich ist das Geräusch deutlich angenehmer als die gängigen elektronischen Varianten von Korg u.ä. Deshalb wird das Wittner Piccolo, das ich mir übrigens als Nachfolger eines weiteren Wittner Metronoms angeschafft habe, das nach 30 Jahren Einsatz nicht mehr absolut gleichmäßige Schläge liefern konnte, wohl noch einige Zeit bei mir im Einsatz beim Üben von Klavier und Gitarre sein, da für beide Instrumente die Lautstärke angenehm ist.

Le métronome qui groove

Attention, ce métronome n'en a que le nom ! Tout ce qu'on demande à ce genre de produit est de marquer un tempo. Là, il ne sait pas le faire proprement, pourtant le mien est posé sur mon piano, bien stable. Mais l'aiguille se déplace irrégulièrement ce qui provoque un rythme ternaire sympathique au demeurant, mais absolument régulier !
