Kala KALA KA-BE Baritone Ukulele

I gave this little beast five stars across the board, and honestly, it feels slightly unfair to the competition.
The Kala KA-BE has that lovely, warm baritone-ukulele voice acoustically, but plug it in and it suddenly develops a PhD in sounding ridiculously good. I’ve also used it for studio recording, where it holds up beautifully as a genuinely usable instrument rather than merely being “the funny big ukulele.”
Build, playability, value for money and amplified sound are all excellent. It’s one of those purchases where you keep expecting to discover the catch, but apparently the catch is just that you should have bought one sooner.

Wow, as a fairly new player I am blown away by the rich tones of this beautiful instrument. Having to relearn the chords is a bit of a chore coming from a Tenor but the delight of playing this gem makes the task much easier. The sound is deep and rich plus the strings are not so tight giving an almost bass guitar type feeling and holding a fret is much more comfortable. The Baritone is quietly becoming more and popular, so the access to resources is growing.

Vorneweg: ich spiele nicht Baritonukulele, und auch nicht Gitarre. Ich bewerte diese Ukulele besaitet als GCEA Uke eine Oktave tiefer. Bevor ich die Saiten gewechselt habe, habe ich nur kurz den Klang als Bariton getestet, und da hat es mir sehr gut gefallen.

Aktuell verwende ich die Uke mit extra high tension Gitarrensaiten (mehr dazu unten, für die, die es interessiert) in der niederen Oktave - ausgenommen das G, das ist sozusagen high-G für die tiefe Oktave, und verwende dafür auch noch die original Bariton-Saite. Damit ist der Klang sehr voluminös, tief und warm, mit langem Nachhall. Die EHT-Saiten sind überhaupt nicht locker! Da es eine Kompositholz-Uke ist, mache ich mir über etwaige zu hohe Spannung der Saiten weniger Sorgen.
Der Korpus ist sehr schön in dem satin Mahagoni, lediglich die obere hintere Kante ist etwas "spitz", was glaube ich bei mir bei energischem Spiel zu Abnützungserscheinungen am Arm führen wird... bzw. Ärmel nötig macht! Dafür bei der Verarbeitung ein Stern Abzug.
Ein Pluspunkt bei der KA-BE ist, dass zusätzlich zum Pickup auch ein Gurtknopf vormontiert ist.

Die Mechaniken sind "smooth" und erlauben einfaches Stimmen.

Den Pickup habe ich erst bei einer Gelegenheit ausprobiert, da schien er gut zu funktionieren. Es ist natürlich das übliche mit nur einem Piezo-Streifen unter der Brücke, aber es scheint dennoch ausreichend homogen zu sein. Der eingebaute Tuner funktioniert gut!

As G: The original baritone G-String, which was tuned for G3, which is the right octave for the re-entrant tuning. Possibly replace with the wound G-String of the guitar set in the future.
As C: The 5th (A) string of the Guitar set
As E: The 4th (D) string of the guitar set
As A: The unwound extra G string of the EJ44C set (this one comes with two G-strings, one wound, one unwound)
