Teenage Engineering EP-1320 Medieval

The EP-series samplers are amazing portable machines that can basically allow you to create tracks from start to finish. Out of the entire series, I wouldn't recommend EP-1320 first, unless you really see use for medieval-themed samples (which are quite amazing I must say!). If you'd like to focus on other genres/sounds, it will do fine, but EP-133 and EP-40 will grant you more versitality, in terms of samples, storage and possibility to remove stock ones. Regardless, if medieval-ness is your thing, this one is a no-brainer.

Pros:
- Very unique looks, beautiful display
- Tons of functions, both for composing and adding cool effects
- 220 fantastic medieval-themed samples
- Portable, very light, can be powered via four AAA batteries, the box will fit in any backpack
- Easy to sync with other devices*
- Good price for a quite capable sampler

Cons:
- *the IN/OUT sockets are so close together you need to use cables with VERY thin endings
- Can't remove stock samples
- Can take a longer while to menu-dive and learn all functions, but that's to be expected with a device this small. It's as convenient as it can be as far as I'm concerned
- The manual and settings are stylized to latin/old English I guess, sometimes it might be annoying when trying to figure out a specific funtion
- Uploading samples can be done only via TE's website. It works fine, but why can't I just download the sample tool?

As a fan of everything medieval and medieval themed, also TE fanboy I bought it on a whim. It is a decent sampler, it has a nice sequencer, effects are really good, punch-in effects are fun as hell, looping, chopping samples works great.
As for the cons of this little machine- you’ll have to learn a lot of button shortcuts, I’ve encountered a couple of glitches and factory samples that can’t be erased are not everyone’s cup of tea and their use is limited. Build quality is okay.
Would I buy this again? Not really, I’d go with EP-133 but for what it is (a gimmicky sampler) it’s decent

Quality of the instrument is fantastic, and super reasonably priced for Teenage Engineering!
Workflow is a treat when you figure it out, some people complain about the cheesy Medieval language themed labels being confusing, maybe at first you need to wrap your head around it, but in very little time you’re not even going to be reading those labels since maneuvering through features and menus becomes muscle memory fairly quickly, even for beginners.
Some great samples pre-loaded, with more than enough space to load your own!
Looking forward to an upcoming flight, plugging in my headphones and making some dark, Elden Ring synth pieces!
